The first two pairs saw victories for Simon Barry / Peter Tompkins and Chuck McCombe / Steve Girling, Chuck recording a 31.48 average.
Keith White faced Alan Church in the opening single and it was Alan Church who prevailed with a fine MOM 27.42 average including a 180 and an 11-darter.
Next on Simon Barry was unable to carry on where he left off last week going down to the free-scoring Vern Walsh. At 3-3, the next game, arguably the best on paper could prove crucial as Chuck McCombe was pitted against old adversary Simon Whalley and it was Chuck who came out on top, winning 3-1 hitting a 180 and a 12-darter on his way to MOM performance of 27.09.
Next on Mike Giesen, showing character and enjoying some good fortune, picked M. Chapman’s pocket to win 3-2 thus restoring

Keith White / Simon Barry (against Steve Maish / Terry Rose) and Jim Myers / Mike Giesen (against Mick Peel / Paul Barham) fought well but lost their games.

Well done to both players. Keith Petrie played quite well but lost to the vastly experienced Carl Smith (180, 25.91 ave) before Mick Squelch (146 finish) had another tight 5 leg match, losing this time to James Jennings. Great pairs as usual ... so we were 4-0 down. Keith White on first lost 3-2to Mick Harris with Keith doing a 10 darter in leg 4. George lost to Darren Peetoom and Chucky lost to Wayne Mardle. Pete lost to Andy Burmby and Liam was just edged out in 5 to Phil Brewster. Simon lost out to old boy Wayne Gleed and Jim lost to Mick Harris. So 11-0 down and Mick Squelch on last against Jimmy Noone with Mick coming out the victor in 5.
I must say Springfield played very well with only one of thier players not hitting a 180, 9 in total.
On the whole we only had 2 poor singles games the rest played fairly well but we need to be more clinical in the pairs and on the doubles when we get the chance.
Fours next week so a break from the league and time to regroup for the next match against Riverside.

Away to Harwich
Steve's away so this is Pete's report.
What can i say......poor start better finish.
After a long arduous journey, we expexted a hard game against last seasons runners up. The sea air must of affected us at the start as the pairs just didn't go our way. We lost all 4 but were left on 32, 6, 8 and 35 so with a little luck we could of won some.
So to the singles, Roy up first and he lost 3-0 to a steady Scott Lawrie. Simon on next and he won 3-0 against an under par Marcus Smith. Steve Cox never got going and was duly despatched 3-0 by Simon Cook (26,84). Mick Squelch up next against Adrian Genery we all thought this would be a close game but the first 4 legs were shared with average scores but in the last Mr Squelch popped in a fantastic 164 finish to claim victory. Young Liam next protectinig his 100% record against stalwart Alan Collins and he duly oblidged with a great game and a 177 in leg 4 lead to a 3-1 victory. Chucky next versus Kevin Cook a good game and a 180 by Chuck in leg 4 helped him to a 3-1 win. Jim up next and he never really got going and lost 3-0 to Peter Barton. Then last on Pete, according to the Harwich web site the game of the night, not from my point of view, lol, as i hit 2 180's but lost out 3-1 to a great throw from Kevin Edwards(27.78) who hit a 180 and a 177 along the way.
Overall we need to focus a bit more on the pairs as going 4-0 down doesnt help our cause but 4-4 in the singles against Harwich proves we can hold our own with the big boys, lets see how we fair against Springfield next week.

What can I say, rubbish..........
We started the night all looking for an upset, but all we got wat an upset tummy... The pairs started off with a strong pairing of Micky and Pete, but could have used a pint of Red Bull as they just couldnt find the trebbles. Chucky and Jimmy on next again with a poor performance with Simon and George following in there footsteps loosing but with the highest average for the pairs. Liam and Steve saved our blushes with a win. 3-1 going into the singles. Liam was on first to start the singles off with a hard fort out game to win 3-2, Keith (P) loosing out before Peter came on to win his game 3-2. The next game saw a great match with Chucky (27.10) edging out against R Turner (26.44). Roy lost his game 3-1, Simon played an out of sorts Al Hedman losing out 3-2. the last two games, on paper looked like we had a draw and 1 point on the board, but this was a far as it got the two Micks lost there games leaving us losing 8-4 on the night.
The only thing I can say about the game........ Not a lot realy only three players played any good that night. Lets hope we play better against our next opponents Harwich. A nice long trip up the A12.

Away to Hockley (ouch........)
Not a bad game to start the new season, all say hi to the A league boys.......
We alll started in high spirits knowing this would be a long night against last years league winners. All started off well with Mickey and myself winning the first game of the night, just. Peter (26) and the new Captain Stevie G losing out to Mark Landers (30.62) and J Walsh . Chucky and Roy got us back on track, with george (27 average) and Keith (P) losing out to a 33 leg by M.wiles and J Allison. 2-2 going into the singles. Only 2 bad games in the singles with only Liam winning his game.
We lost 9-3 but for the first game of the new season this was a good performance by all. Next week at home to Cressing, i'm expecting a close game.

The return of the King
Well what can I say, this was more like goodnight John boy than hello Sally. A fine night of darts... well, some of the time. The pairs started with the SS, but played like the two Ronnies rather than a elite German army regiment, so the first game lost, Micky and Roy got us back into contension before George and Keith who could'nt fine the red bit, lost out. Simon and Peter put on another fine performance to level the match 2-2. The last time we played Walton, which was at there place, we could'nt find our range at all, so the pressure was on for us to win. The singles started with our little captain, winning 3-1 with a great 110 finish in the 4th leg, next on was Peter, trying hard not to be destracted by the many text messages from all the women lusting after his body, won his game with a 13 dart leg and near on 100% check out, Jimmy (welcolm back) came on and played with some great darts to start off the game but still came off winning 3-2, this looked like a good win was on the cards now being 5-2 up. Simon (the jinx) up next, as all our hearts was in our mouths, won 3-1 with some heavy ton scoring and a 180. This secured at least a point for us. George up next knowing he could win the match and give us 2 points played some fine darts to win 3-2. Keith (P) just didn't get going and lost 3-0. I was on next and played two great legs of darts before, nearly cocking up, but came out on top 3-1, roy on last was up for a good fight as we had won the game, lost out with some fine throwing and a 24.9 average. A win for us 8-4.
To some things up. It was nice to see Jimmy (The King) back, as he has not been enjoying his Darts of late and nearly giving the game up entirly. A nice win for us putting the pressure back on out closest rivals Orsett, knowing there could be 3 teams promoted to the top division. Next week away to Basildon, this will be a tough test for us, but we all know we can win this and go on to greater heights. We are improving every season and looking forward to playing the top teams once again.

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
Oh dear or should I say "Ohhhhh Fraaaa-aaank". The night started on a positive note, with the two Steve's wining the first pairs of the night, with Stevie Girling hitting a 180 and Dan Bailey (Orsett) hitting a174 at the end of the leg to pressurise the out shot. Our little capitain and Keith Petrie narrowly loosing out to Gary Miles and Simon Pratt, next on was the dwarf and Chucky, but just could not find their range against the county player's of Wayne and Harry. How we lost the next Pairing of Simon and Pete, against Gary Middleton and Liam Pender, god only knows. 5 maximums thrown in the pairs between the two teams made for great viewing. Going into the singles 3-1 down made this (looking at the draw) a very hard task to get even a point out of this game. George was on first with what I can only describe as a horror show loosing out to Gary payne who in turn did not play as well as we know he can, but still managed to find a very well taken 114 out shot in the second leg. Keith white played hard to get and teased Danny Bailey with a 180 in the second leg to loose with a fine performance (NOT) "Ooh Betty". This left us with a mammoth task ahead of us now being 5-1 down. I was on next against the poorly Liam, still suffering from a broken anckle, with me winning (Just) 3-1. One day I will be able to have a drink on away games! Chucky on next against Gary miles, this should have been a classic game with two of the best local players playing against each other, but Gary could not find his way and let Chucky in to be our man of the match, with a fine 26.54. (sorry Simon). Peter on next against in form Simon Pratt, again Simon as with Gary could not find the range and let Peter in to win 3-0. The next 3 games looked on paper to be be a win for Orsett, But......... Our little captain narrowly missed out for the win against Gary middleton loosing 3-2 and gave Orsett at least 1 point. Next on Harry Miles against Simon, (The jinx) This was a great game of darts to watch seeing some heavey scoring on both sides, but Simon won through winning 3-2. Roy was last on against county player Wayne Gleed, this should have been a win for Wayne, again but.......... Wayne could not find the red bit of the board until the last leg but Roy being Roy stood fast to edge a fine win 3-1.
You could see by the faces of some of the Orsett players, there was "trouble at mill". Going by their last match report. This wasn't the Orsett of September past. The draw, on paper looked like we should have lost as we were 3-1 down in the pairs, but did we give up..... Hell no.....
I just want to some up one thing, we all loose at times, and we all play bad from time to time, which nobody likes to see in a high quality game. But you have to bite your lip, walk away, and reflect on why you lost. I shudder every time I see a very fine dart player beat himself up every time he plays bad. Remember i'ts not your opponants fault. There were some good averages here tonight but also some bad. we all put each other under a lot of pressure being a local derby, each wanting to win. But in my oppinion this was a fair result.

Dirty Harry (Maldon)
Ooops...... Maldon did the dirty on us (in the nicest of ways of course) we were 5-2 up and needing only 1 point....... yes........1 point from our last 5 games to at least come away with a draw, but did we get it, hell no. Ok.... Where shall I start. The pairs started off with the pairing of S&S and a poor performance from me saw us loose the first point, our little captain and KP scraped there win with Keith w and Chucky doing the same, with their opponents sitting on the mad house. Next on was Simon and Pete, who lost their Monday night pairs title to there team mates at the start of the week, put on a great show to give us the lead going into the singles. (sorry for the advert)
The singles started with Simon...... oh Simon, oh Simon, oh Simon (The jinx) well yes you guessed it he won, no seriously, he played realy well with a 25.05 average. yet again the man of the match (much to Peters delight). I was on next with what I can only say was a horror show, the first two legs wasnt wearthy of a Monday night place let alown Wednesdays, then the slight comeback with two good legs, a 120 finish and a 180 in the 4th still wasnt enough, Peter was next on giving us our only other point wining 3-1. The next two games saw Keith white and our little captain loose 3-0 to some great throwing from Maldon. The next game was a must, as chucky was next up for us, but unfortunatly, double trouble in the first two legs was enough for Maldon to pounce, George was most unlucky not to win going down 3-2. last on was Roy, who had a hard game against Andy Cole, lost out 3-1with a good performance from him.
Does this not seem funny to you, that every time Simon wins a game we loose. No...... seriously I dont blame you one bit................... I know we have some fun blaming Simon and he knows we are only playing with him. Please keep up your winning ways, but as Keith P says to me every week "Please put him on last". We need to practice on our doubles a bit more often........ Oh come on we do, every game we are practicing our finishing. But prehaps, we should just concentrate on the doubles rather than starting off the combination. Next week we are away to off form Orsett our local rivals, who of late are have a few problems. So I have 1 question to ask Goose.
I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire 15 darts or only twelve?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a 24gram Harrow Magnum, the most powerful set of darts in the world, and would blow your Darts Board clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do we feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
See you next week Punks!!!!!!!!!!

Home to Rush Green
Won 7-5
This weeks film title
Monty Python & the Holy Grail.
Yet again a comedy show....... I wont go into all the details, neeeeeeeeeee.
The pairs started out well with the restored pairing of Simon and Pete, Steve c and Micky would have won but for a few last good 180, 140 & 122 throwing from the Rush Green pairing of Steve woodside and Mr Enever, Chucky and keith (w) restored our wining ways along with our last pairing of Stevie G and Roy with a 116 finish. this gave us a 3-1 lead going into the singles. The singles started out with two great games seeing Pete losing out to S. Woodside (27.11) 3-1 and Me, well I lost out to S.Enever with a great 31.31. Our little captain won 3-2 (slightly poor performance from him) Simon won with a good 25.05 3-0, and Chucky had an easy game against Dave Phillips (with a back problem) George was unlucky to lose his game 1-3, Roy won His game 3-2 against James Thompson giving us the win. Now looking at the last game we would have thought this was another pound won........... but that is all I will say on that, I thank you.
We won, as we all new we would but.... Oh never mind we won, and two more points on the board. There were some good games tonight with some good averages, not great but good. next week we are at home to Maldon, which on paper, is a tough game. We won at there place the last time we met, so this should be a close game. I think we may need to consult a good book for answers on how to win next week...... here is an extract from said book to give you the answer.
Armaments, chapter two, verses nine to twenty-one.
I would asume the last part refurs to Keith Petrie, who in his wisdom try's in vain to destroy the Board every week........................ See you all next week.

Carry on Camping!
Opps.......... What more can i say about this weeks game that any Carry on film can't. I had to ring round to find troops to go, as we would have been players short due to work comitments, but we made it in the end.
The pairs, well...... that started bad..... no sorry rubbish (i'd better not swear), Harlow started like greyhounds from a trap with their first pair hitting a 29.44 average with Simon and keith not beeing able to keep up, Stevie c and Jimmy could not get going but had 4 darts at a double, even Harlow played just as bad, Chucky and George, just more of the same realy, then the last pairing of Pete and Micky should have (on paper) give us at least 1 point from the pairs but some good throwing by the Harlow pairing of Hogg and Jennings, left us being down 4-0. To be honest the singles started out realy well, but we all new to get a point we would have to win 6 games on the trot, which by the looks of the draw could have been possible, Chucky narrowly missed out for the win, George again missed out with some fine darts, this didn't seem to be out night, which was confirmed when Simon (the jinx) won his game 3-0. A draw was the best we could have hoped for from then on and could have been possible, but Pete lost out to some good darts by Dicky Foster, Micky as with the rest of us just could't find his range, as was the last 3 games.
All i can say is this, we have played some great darts over the past few months but I cant help thinking to myself, what is going wrong, we have the players capable of winning with good averages, but why cant we be consistant. Our next league game is at home to Rush green who we have beaten on both occations, lets hope this trend will stay with us. There is a strong possibility 4 teams will be promoted to the first division next season as quite a few teams have expressed an urge to join the league. So dont let this set back dampen our spirit, if we all rally together we could get 4th or even 3rd place and get that promotion we all crave. Good luck for all who are going to Chelmsford next week for the British Masters.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
I have to take care in what i write this week, thats all i will say about the subject.
This weeks game was not the game it should have been. Both teams did not play well. The pairs started off with Keith P and Simon taking the first leg, but should have lost with Dunmow missing doubles, the two Steve's would have had a great average but for missed doubles (Again) but came out on top, the next two pairs were lost leaving us all square going into the singles. Mr.Dwarf white (Keith) won but with a better average than of late, our little Capitain (Man of the match) with out shadow of a dought won but would have a better average if the first and last legs went the way of the fantastic 2nd 13 dart leg. I can't say too much about the rest as it was far too painfull to watch, even I played bad, the last game chuckey came on to give us a lift, as all of us including Dunmow were feeling a bit fed up, won 3-1.
To sum things up this was a poor poor game on both our behalfs. Could it be we were both feeding off of each other with poor scores on both sides, could it be the venue, (NO NO NO, stop it it causes trouble the venue was fine!!!) How bad was it......... Dunmow won 5 legs in the singles against our 22, i can't think what the team average will be, i dont want to work it out to be honest. I am not singing this week even though we won, Sorry Goose. We are away to Harlow next week and need to be on our game, we need to play the same way as last week. Were back on track and totting up the points but need to start playing, We know we can!

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
The Good bit, we won and with a good team average, the Bad bit, the venue, the ugly bit, well you deside, in my view, there was no change behind the bar and with the booze at pub prices and the oche....... well not realy what i call a club eh!
Any way enough moaning i will leave that to Stevie G if you know what i mean!!!! Again we started well in the pairs taking the first 2 not in style but a good fight non the less, our little capitain with the new local lad P.T. won the next pairs with a good average of 25.67, Simon and George just could not get going for the last pairs and this took us into a 3-1 lead. The singles was the best i have seen from our players for a long time, and about time too. I started the singles (yet again) and lost out to a great 2 15 dart legs from Mr C.Nabb, our little Captain won but should have had a far far better average than shown, with him playing silly buggers with the double on the last leg, The local boy won with a great 26.59 (nice to see you firing on all cylinders again, it must be the water) simon on next with a hard 5 leg game lost with a 24.59, mr dwarf White had a good first two legs befour he typicaly left himself on the mad house, but won 3-0, (Throw your bus at it man!!) Chucky on next lost the first two legs of his game before pulling it back to 2-2 but a quick 16 dart leg from his opponant saw him loose with a respectable 26.61, Stevie G was on next, his game would give us the win we deserved, he won the first leg, then the pub (sorry club ha ha!!) started to empty, but with the exit next to the oche, all you could see was the drinkers leaving, so the next two legs went to W/A, now with the club empty steve got on with the job and polished the next two legs off in style, (I must find some horse blinkers for him) this gave us the win, Jimmy on next with no pressure what so ever, and with a bad run of form of late played his best game I have seen for a long time and won 3-2, well done you.
To sum things up, the throw was great as you could see by the averages, the oche was in, totaly the wrong place, how can you put an oche next to the entrance/exit without putting up a screen of some sorts. Nobody (ok most of us) complained as it was a good win for us 8-4 and as we will not be playing there until next season.......... what am i saying we wont be playing them, we will be going up to the premier league with Harlow, were back on track, I cant wait to get stuffed by Hockley, Riverside, Harwich, Cressing etc............ No realy, I must stop writing this in my sleep. Next week we are at home to Dunmow, this should be another good win and 2 more point to us, frightening eh........

The Muppets
I dont have very much to say about this weeks game as it was so sad to watch, we won the first pairs (just) then lost the next 3. Simon was on first wining his game for the first singles, then well, not much else to shout about realy, so many good players not performing. At the end of the night we needed the last 4 games to draw, the pairs let us down for the first time in ages which put us under a lot of pressure, the whole night was like one of Fuzzy bears jokes..... not funny......... Next week we have a free night, this was supposed to be a friendly between us and Springfield at home but for some reason they canceled, they must be frightened after hearing about this weeks game. Yer right........ We must use this weeks free night to sort out our problems on the board, i cant understand why we can have a great run before christmas shooting us up the table, then to come back drawing a game we should have won and loosing out to Basildon who was not on form. Never mind... in two weeks time we have the singles at Basildon, we have 1 pairs through to the finals, so lets have not 1 but a few players in the singles finals.

Batman & Robin (ROBBED)
As i have had my bottom spanked a few times for not updating this site i thought i had better make a start. Better late than never eh........ All started with a florish with Mickey and Keith winning the first leg with just shy of a 30 average, Simon and Jimmy lost there way slightly before Peter (yes he is back) and Keith p giving us back the lead, the two steve's back to there winning ways with stevie g finishing with 1 dart on tops (never thought that would happen) this gave us a 3-1 lead going into the singles. Simon on first losing out 3-0 and stevie g started out well but a poor second leg losing out again 3-0. Peter desiding that Suffolk was too cold for him came back to his best by winning his game 3-0. Thisn gave us a lead of 4 games to 3. Keith p was unfortunatly in need of some spirtual guidence and little Micky with double trouble edged his game 3-2, 5-4 going into the last 3 games. Jimmy was on next has not been his self of late won his fist singles match for a long time, this gave us a draw, the two players that were next up should have given us the win but Keithy white lost with a very poor performance by his standard losing 3-0 and Steve c who has won his last 6 games lost to a 17 and 16 dart Topolewski. So finishing the game 6 games each. This i feel was 1 point lost than 1 point gained. There were points in the game were we should have raped up a good win, perhaps it was the traveling that did us a maybe an under strength side. Who knows. Next week at home to Basildon, this was another game that we should have won so hopefully thisn will be our night.

All i will say about last night is DOUBLES oh DOUBLES. It started off well with Steve C starting where he left off from last week by beating adrian genery 2-1, with a 26.48, Simon losing out to Simon Cook 2-1 but should have won 3-0, Chucky and Roy losing out 3-0 again with missed Doubles. Keith petrie should have taken the game 3-0 against Kevin Cook, Stevie G played well but losing out to a 160 finishing 28+ average Micky Chambers, Jim played his best game this season to win 2-1 against Mr Warren and finaly little Micky played a high scoring game with........... yet again, missed doubles and lost 3-0. over all a poor night of darts on our behalf, after last weeks victory we should have been in great spirits but looked more like Grays athletic playing Manchester United after a night on the town. May be it was the distance traveled. I do hope not, because the next game is on the 14th January 2009 away to Walton.

Home to Orsett
This weeks film title
The Empire Strikes Back
Im not saying im smiling whilst im writing this but revenge is sweet. The last time we played Orsett at their place we got trounced, and trully deserved to loose. This time the whole team was on a roll and we new that this game was ours for the taking. On first was our pair of Chucky and the Dwarf Mr White (who are through to the pair finals at Chelmsford) and taking the first point of the night with a pairs average of 34.52. Peter and Simon lost out to a fantastic pair of Liam and Danny 28.60. The next two pairs were below standard compaird to the first two games, leaving us all square at two legs a peice. The singles started with a treat of Chucky Vs Liam with Liam taking the first leg in 15 darts, but chucky edging the game 3-1 with an average of 28.29 and Liam 27.24. Simon couldnt get going but finally winning out against Mike Giesen. Up next was an in form Steve Cox against Gary Miles who has just won the Sussex Grand Prix and has not lost a single game in the league. Steve registering a 180 and with a 100% check out, won through with a 27.28 average. The next three games were lost by us with good averages registerd by Orsett. This put us 5-5 with two of our best players to throw. Mr white needed to win for us to at least register a draw, and with a tight game came out on top 3 legs to 2 against Danny Bailey. Mickey was last on against Gary Payne and played very well to win 3-0 and win the game for Thurrock. This will put us on the same points as Orsett. The league is very tight at the top and with the season nearing the half way point both teams know next year will need to be more of the same. On a seasonal note my quote for this week is.
When prepairing the Goose for the Christmas table make sure its well and trully stuffed.
No pun intended!

Away to Maldon.
There is a good famous film with the title that summed up last nights performance.
TRUE GRIT.
Every one in the team gave it there all. The pairs started off well for us seeing Simon hitting a 30.52 average and Peter taking the double for the first leg, Micky and Roy continued the good start with some fantastic Darts to give us a 2-0 lead. Mick McCombe and Keith White missed a chance for us to go 3-0, Steve Cox & Stevie G against Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Jasper (showing us how to play) with a late flurry of tons missed 6 darts to finish the game off. So going into the singles all square 2 a piece.
The singles started off with George hitting some big scores, but missing some vital doubles which would have given him a good average but still came out on top with a win. Next on was Steve Cox not realy firing on all cylinders faught hard with a 180, a great 84 outshot and 3 big tons in the last leg gave us another win. Simon came on next under a lot of pressure Knowing his win would be important and taking us closer to the win we needed, he started off slow then thrilled us with a 15 dart 3rd leg and a 126 finish, then showed his determination by winning the last leg with his opponant on tops. Keith Petrie came on next but just couldn't get started and lost 3-1, Keith White showed us why he was picked for county last season with some great darts (2x 180's) and getting back to his best, a few missed doubles in the 3rd and 4th leg sent this great game to the wire with Keith coming out on top with an 18 dart leg. This ensured us a draw. Mr dependable went on, Chucky as known to us all, has not been at his best of late, and with all the team getting behind him knowing his game would seal Maldons fate, saw Chucky throw some fantastic darts, 8 tons and a last leg of 16 darts thrown, gave us the win and a vital 2 points, our little captain came on next, Micky, should of won 3-0 but lost out with doubles missed, this left the last game (1210am at this stage) of Stevie G against Mr Lloyd, no contest realy (sorry Steve i didn't rig the draw honest) Colin back to his best with a 28.36 average and a 160 finish gave Steve no chance but with the win already in the bag this game was played in great spirit. But over all a great nights win 7 games to 5. Lets hope next week we get behind our team the way we did last night and record another great win. Simon with his VOODOO over the team now lifted, knows this will be the turning point for Thurrocks season. Thurrocks new mascot will be there next week to cheer us all on.
